Poverty is a social, economic, and political problem of enormous proportions and complexity, and children are its most vulnerable victims. The statistics only tell part of the story: as many as forty million people die each year of poverty-related causes, of which ten million are children. Poverty threatens and sometimes destroys valued relationships and denies the world the gifts of those whose lives never reach their potential.
Compounding the tragedy of poverty´s existence is the fact that it is preventable. Economic deprivation has always ravanged the earth. What is different today is that the technical means exist to prevent the premature deaths resulting from poverty. Science and technology have made available the tools for providing every person with adequate nutrition. Further, medical science knows how to prevent most childhood diseases that kill the world´s impoverished children. Lacking are the moral vision, political will, and motivation to address the problems associated with poverty.

Las iglesias luchan con la complejidad de las leyes de autoría y las restricciones que enfrentan cuando desean utilizar recursos litúrgicos en un orden de culto o al querer publicar material litúrgico sin fines de lucro.
Es difícil encontrar recursos que puedan ser compartidos libremente a través de la red.
Es difícil saber cómo usar material litúrgico de otros países de un modo justo y equitativo.
No es sencillo saber dónde acudir para recibir asesoramiento o evitar ser atrapado por las leyes de propiedad intelectual.
Muchas iglesias, individuos y organizaciones ecuménicas enfrentan desafíos cuando tratan esos temas. Esta lucha se ha hecho más dura en el amplio contexto de globalización, en el que las reglas del mercado dominan y la cultura de la mercantilización lo invade todo. Si bien es importante entender la lógica del mercado y las leyes y normas aplicables a la propiedad intelectual, hay otros temas que también necesitan ser tenidos en cuenta.
Este documento tiene el objetivo de brindar algunas orientaciones y guías en esta tarea de búsqueda de alternativas a la actual situación. Es un esfuerzo para suscitar preguntas y clarificar algunas posibles soluciones y alternativas.
